Beyond the aisle
Event, editorial
& commercial make-up
Make-up · Xander Tang
A gala, a premiere, a birthday, a headshot session, a launch. I come to you, work fast and quietly, and build a face that photographs the way you want to be remembered — under flash, on video, and in person.
This is the work I do most weeks, and it is the reason the wedding make-up holds: a red carpet gives you no second take and no touch-up window. Everything I have learned about durability, I learned here.
What I get booked for
Red carpet & premieres
Built for direct flash and a hundred lenses. Nothing that catches light where it should not, nothing that reads grey on camera.
Galas & benefits
Long nights, warm rooms, step-and-repeats. Finished before the car arrives and intact when it takes you home.
Headshots & branding
Skin first, camera-tested, and calibrated to how the images will actually be used — casting, a press kit, a website.
Personal shoots
Maternity, milestone birthdays, family portraits, engagement sessions. One look or several across the day.
Glam-and-go
A single application, on location, when you need to look finished and have somewhere to be. My most-repeated booking.
Groups & parties
Bachelorette weekends, milestone dinners, holiday parties. Priced per person and scheduled so nobody waits.

Simple by design
Event work should not need a project plan. Three steps, and I am in your living room with a light and a chair.

Send the details
Date, call time, location, how many people, and whether it is being photographed.

Confirm and book
I come back within 24 hours with availability and a quote. Booking holds the time.

I come to you
Set up in ten minutes, one hour in the chair, out before you need the room back.
Most of my event clients are repeat clients
Once I have your notes on file — your formulas, your skin, what you like and what you will not wear — the next booking takes one message. Tell me the date and I will be there.
Editorial & commercial
Key make-up for campaign, editorial, film, television and music. New York trained, Los Angeles based, own kit, travelling. Day and half-day bookings.

Make-up lessons & the Make-up Edit
Most people are not bad at make-up. They are using the wrong six products, bought on someone else's face.
A lesson with me is two hours of undoing that — on your skin, with your hands doing the work, so that it survives the drive home.

Two ways to do it
I The Lesson
Two hours · in person
We start with what you already own and what you actually do in the morning. Then I teach the version of your face that works — you apply it, I correct as you go, and we photograph it so you have a reference.
- Your full routine, taught step by step
- A day look and an evening variation
- A personalised shopping list you keep
- Reference photographs of the finished look
II The Make-up Edit
Consultation · no application
For the drawer that has forty things in it and nothing that works. We go through what you own, keep what earns its place, and I write you a list built around your skin rather than a trend.
- A full review of what you currently use
- Skincare sequence and product order
- A written shopping list, by price tier
- What to stop buying, and why
Who books these
Brides
Who want to do their own make-up for the rehearsal dinner, the welcome party, and every morning of the honeymoon.
On camera
Founders, presenters and anyone who has to look right on a call, a panel or a podcast without a crew.
Starting over
A new decade, new skin, or a face that stopped responding to the routine that used to work.
Pick a time that suits you
Bring your current make-up bag; that is the whole preparation.
